The year was 1953. Coming from the US back to a comparably backwaters Taiwan, the New York skyline feels surreal and other worldly. The windows of sky scrapers resemble the stars in the skies or the shine of precious stones, it was stunning. I felt it would be interesting to pair this skyline with an American girl straddling a flying horse cruising the night sky. There is also a story in ancient China about an emperor who traveled the skies on top of a flying horse. This painting uses cubism techniques, and combines flowers and my imagination to merge everything together.
