Hsu felt the rationality of Cubism techniques were inadequate to fully express the artists’ inner emotions to the viewer, therefore he began to search for a new technique. Hsu attempted to combine Fauvism and Cubism together to better express himself.This painting looks down from a high point in San Francisco at the bustling streets below, with the Bay Bridge in the horizon.
